Building Collaborating Communities Online

by Jeff Flynn-

This presentation will demonstrated the use of Drupal, Yugma (online screensharing tool), Skrbl (online collobarative white board) and Skype (online audio, video and text chat tool) as tools for developing online communities. Utilizing the resources of Worldbridges, the EdTechTalk community will gather virtually. Skype for audio chat and a text chat room will be used for communication between members of this gathering. Samples of online communities will be shared and reviewed with an emphasis of experience and lessons learned by individual EdTechTalk educators. Jeff Lebow, Jennifer Maddrell and Doug Symington.

A drupal will be installed and participants will observe the web server management through the use of Yugma screen sharing software. A drupal for the conference has been customized and prepared for use. Participants will be able to log in to the chat room, join the skypecast and enter drupal site and be able to post to a blog, forum or book.

After educators are exposed to these great tools, the question oftern arises, "Ok, now what? How do we use this with our students?" That's why we are excited to have Bill Fitzgerald, of FunnyMonkey.com and Open Academic, join us for the last part of our presentation. He will talk about how this tool can be customized and utilized by students in classrooms and schools. His team has been working at developing drupaled, which is a preconfigured install of drupal that already has much of the customization done in advance in order to make the process all the more user friendly.
